The School of Humanities, Tiangong University, was founded by merging the school of foreign languages and the school of humanities and law in July 2018. The school has experienced a historical development from a single to comprehensive formation, integrating social sciences, humanities and foreign language studies into one school Following the principle of "knowing the past and the present, and integrating the eastern and the Western scholarship", faculty members educate students with advanced culture pursue excellence, consolidate the new, and move forward.
The School of Humanities consists of 5 departments, 4 research centers and 160 teaching faculties. There are two disciplines of literature and arts, with 2 first-level master degrees programs in drama and film and foreign language and literature,and 1 professional degree of master in arts, and 5 bachelor degrees in the subject of English, Japanese, radio and television and radio and television director. Also, the school is in charge of the teaching of the public foreign language class and the humanities-related class of the whole university, which have formed the complete personnel training system.
The school has 139 full-time faculty members, including 11 professors, 45 associate professors and 89 lecturers. There are 33 teachers with doctorate degree, 30 master's degree tutors and 5 Ph.D. students, 3 Tianjin131 innovative talents.Among them, there are 16 master supervisors and 8 full professors at the foreign language and literature program; 12supervisorswith doctorates; 1 postdoctoral researcher; and 12 supervisors with overseas university experience . There are 30 teaching teams in the first-tier discipline of drama and film and television, including 16 senior titles, 22 doctorates and 15 master's supervisors.
There are more than 1600 undergraduates and graduate students in the school. The employment rate of graduates is more than 94% with excellent professional knowledge and hands-on abilities. The field of employment is concentrated in state organs, institutions, new media operating companies, educational institutions, joint ventures and other units. Foreign language graduates can be engaged in translation, teaching, research and management in foreign affairs, economy and trade, business, secretarial, cultural, education, scientific research, tourism and other industries. Media graduates can be engaged in brand planning and cultural communication, digital marketing, news collection and editing, publicity and public relations planning and so on. More than 20% students continue their studies , and the number of students studying abroad and starting their own businesses has increased year after year. Some graduates are recommended or admitted to Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Nankai University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and other famous universities to pursue master's degrees.
School of Humanities has a language teaching experimental center and a digital media teaching experimental center with an area of more than 4800 square meters. The total assets of the equipment are about 21 million yuan.. In 2015, the Digital Media Teaching Experiment Center was approved as the candidate of Tianjin University Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. In 2019, it passed the assessent, turning out to be Tianjin University Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in real sense. The experimental center is equipped with good facilities to meet the need of teaching of media specialty in the era of integrated media. The college and a number of enterprises and institutions jointly build teaching practice base, creating good conditions for students.
In recent years, the faculty of school of humanities have presided over 9 national research projects, including the National Social Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Art Foundation, and more than 50 research projects at provincial and ministerial levels, including the Humanities and Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education, the philosophy and Social Sciences Project of Tianjin, and the Tianjin Art Science Planning Project. In the past three years, 66 journals articles from SCI, SSCI,CSSCI sources, 13 monographs and 3 anthologies have been published, which have made a good influence in academic circles. At the same time, the horizontal research and the transformation of scientific research results have been actively carried out, and good economic and social benefits have been obtained.
School of humanities cooperates with many international universities and scientific research institutes, such as Swansea University, Manchester University, London University, University of Strathclyde, Chungwoon University of South Korea, Josai University of Japan, Jan Kochanowski University of Poland, etc. ,to carry out inter-school exchange programs and independent applications to study abroad.
