The School of Physical Science and Technology was established in October 2018, which evolved from the physics-related disciplines in the School of Science of TGU.The school has two undergraduate majors: Applied Physics featuring microelectronics and Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering featuring photoelectron, and two first-level discipline master's degree program: physics and optical engineering. The school has three departments and two centers: Department of Basic Physics, Department of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Department of Applied Physics, Experiment Center for University Physics and Experimental Center for Photoelectric Physics. It offers Scientific research platforms such as Basic and Cross Research Center, Institute of Physics as well as Institute of Laser Technology.

  

The school has 68 faculty members, including 13 professors, 18 associate professors, of whom one is the New Century Talent of Ministry of Education, one is Distinguished Professor of Tianjin , one is Tianjin young and middle-aged leading talents in scientific and technological innovation, and one is Tianjin Top-Notch Youth Talent. Now the school has 697 students, including 645 undergraduates and 52 postgraduates.

Now the school has one excellent course of Tianjin named “University Physics and Experiment” and its Physics experiment center is selected as Tianjin Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. One of our teachers won the third prize in the National Young Teachers' Lecture Competition, and two won the first prize in the Tianjin Young Teachers' Basic Teaching Skills Competition. A team won the Second Prize of Teaching Achievements of Tianjin. The school attaches great importance to students' extracurricular scientific and technological activities, and the students have  created outstanding results in the National University Students' Photoelectric Design Competition and the Chinese University Students' Physics Academic Competition and comes top in Tianjin.

  

In the past three years, faculty members have been in charge of a number of projects of Natural Science Foundation of China and published more than 240 papers,  of which  more than 140 papers were published in SCI. The research fieldsof physics mainly include laser physics and nonlinear optics, quantum information and optics, and strongly correlated electronic systems. The research direction of optical engineering mainly includes the manufacturing of laser additional materials, laser key technologies and devices, photoelectric functional materials and devices.

  

The school attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. At present, it has established friendly cooperative relations with University of Dundee in Britain, Crakow University of Technology in Poland, Jan Kochanowski University of in Poland, INP Grenoble in France, and University of Applied Science and Technology in Haimen in Finland. Activities such as scientific research cooperation, exchange of teaching staff and joint training of students have been further developed. The cooperation has been continuously deepened
