I. History  

The School of Computer Science and Technology was established in April 2009, whose predecessor was the Department of Computer Science of theSchoolofComputer Technology and Automation founded in 1980. The school was merged into Tianjin Institute of Software Engineering in August 2010.

In talent cultivation,the school has established practical software talents training model of business-oriented needs at different levels, to attract domestic and foreign outstanding institutions to set in base. Taking advantages of education resources ofTianjincolleges and universities and high-tech zones industries, the school combines industries with higher education to promotecollaboration and innovation in personnel training. Adopting the 3 +1model, the school carries out teaching with the contents of new achievements, new courses and new projects. The academic researchof high-performance embedded systems design and other areas have reached the international level. In recent years, the school has undertaken the projects of National Natural Science Foundation, the National Planning Commission, the Ministry of Education Fund, the Ministry of Education Doctoral Program Tianjin Natural Science Foundation and other high-level research projects, and published more than 1000 academic papers in leading journals and international conferences.

The school has 110 full-time faculty members, in cluding 13 professors, 36 associate professors and 59 lecturers. Among them,56 have doctoral degrees, 4 doctoral supervisors and 46 master supervisors.


II.Disciplines and Programs

1) Internet of Things Program- Bachelor degree


This program is intended for cultivating students to become advanced engineering and technology talents with solid theoretical foundation and professional knowledge of Internet of Things. Bachelor degree candidates are expected to have communication network technology, sensors and RFID technology, embedded system development technology and system integration technology .Students after graduation are qualified  to work at Internet of Things-related enterprises and industries such as design, development, management and maintenance of the perception equipment , application system, information security.

2) Animation Program - Bachelor degree

 

This program is established for cultivating students to become advanced applied talents  with solid animation professional knowledge and skills as well as theoretical foundation., coupled with  innovation spirit and practical ability. Students after graduation are able to work in 2D animation, 3D animation, stop-motion recorder, the late edit stage of digital television, the early stage of the game design, animation production management in the movie, TV, Internet and other media production posts.

3)Network Engineering Program - Bachelor degree

 

This program is for cultivating students to become advanced network technology talents who have profound professional knowledge  and strong ability of network engineering that can engage in the technology work of researching and developing network equipment and network protocols, network engineering planning and design and implementation, network application system development, network management and maintenance, network security technology ,with good professional ethics and team  spirit that can meet the needs of industry information in our country. 

4)Software Engineering Program - Bachelor degree

This program is for cultivating students to become application-oriented talents who have good scientific literacy, outstanding engineering capability, the ability to acquire knowledge, excellent professional quality and creative ability and master the basic theory and skill of computer technology and the software design and are able to serve the economic development in our country with the international competition ability that can workin a variety of applied field of software analysis, design, development, management, research and service work, and undertake business management, the software development process management and market sales work.

5)Computer Science and Technology Program - Bachelor degree

 

This program is for cultivating students to become  advanced application-oriented talents who have basic theories of computer science and technology, solid knowledge and practical skills, strong practical ability, basic ability of computer software and hardware research and development. Undergraduate candidates can be qualified to work in scientific research, teaching, science and technology development and management.

6) Software Engineering - Master degree

 

Software industry is the core of  information industry and the foundation of information industry, agriculture, commerce, defense, culture and education etc.. The development of the advanced engineering method of the software is the key to improve the production efficiency of the software, which is also the key to software industrialization. The goal of postgraduate education  is to cultivate a number of professional talents in computer software,   software engineering method,and the theory of software engineering, software engineering research and technical personnel and management of software engineering, in order to meet the needs of   China's software industry, and accelerate  informatization  of our country. This program can meet the need of  the software engineering discipline , coupled with excellent faculty members andsufficient equipments. The purpose of this scheme, as the guiding document for training postgraduate semicircle software  engineering majors. There are four research orientations in this program: theory and application of software engineering, computer image processing technology, information systems management and security of distributed software system.

7) Computer Science and Technology - Master degree

Computer science and technology is one of the fastest-growing and most influential field in engineering technology in the world. It is widely used in information management, scientific computing, process control, communication and other fields, and has been integrated into all aspects of daily life, which triggers the growing needs for  computer science and technology talents. So the development of computer science and technology disciplines  is the inevitable trend in information era. The school boasts capable teachers and advanced  experimental equipmentsIn 1997, the discipline was authorized to establish a master's degree program, and was successively funded from 2000 onwards, by Tianjin Municipal government  during the Tenth Five Year Plan, the Eleventh Five Year Plan, and the Twelfth Five Year Plan.. The school  pay more attention to training students in theoretical research and engineering practical ability in research.  The following are the research orientations of this program: calculation and high performance embedded system design, textile composite materials nondestructive testing and computer aided design, advanced design theory, algorithm and application of intelligent systems and network security, database and biological information calculation etc.

 

III.  Students statistics

The graduates' employment rate of the school is above 94% in the past three years, with nearly 10% of graduates as postgraduates "double top" for further study in university.Many graduatesare employed by well-known enterprises and institutions such as Baidu, Tencent, Meituan, Today's headlines, China Unicom, China aviation industry group co., LTD., and the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, engaged in management and research and development work.

The school actively builds  platforms for students to participate in various subject competitions and encourages students to actively participate in innovation and entrepreneurship activities. In the past three years, our students have won more than 300 provincial and ministerial awards in such well-known competitions as "Internet +" college students' innovation and entrepreneurship competition, China college students' service outsourcing innovation and entrepreneurship competition, national college students' advertising art competition and ACM program design competition.

In 2018, the school successfully organized the "China Internet + college student’s innovation and entrepreneurship competition" inTianjin, and won one national bronze prize and one third prize respectively inTianjin.

Our students also won the first, second and third prizes of "national college students advertising art competition", "China college students service outsourcing innovation and entrepreneurship competition", and made a  breakthrough in the "ACM program design competition" Asian regional competition, winning the gold medal for the first time, and at the same time won 3 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. In the process of participating in the competition, students of our college have improved their abilities in practice, verbal expression and teamwork.

IV. Teaching affairs

The School  currently has five undergraduate majors including Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering and Animation. Software Engineering is a national characteristic specialty and aTianjinapplication-oriented major. Animation is aTianjinMunicipial-level branded major and aTianjinMunicipial-level  Major with special local features. Internet of Things Engineering is a Tianjin Strategic Emerging Industry related major. The Computer Science and Technology is also a Branded major with English as the teaching language (recruiting four-year international students. Furthermore, “Emerging Engineering” pilot class for Cyberspace Security has been set up within Network Engineering.

The school continues to conduct comprehensive research and analysis of the demand for IT professionals, based upon Internet + technology, newly-emerging engineering science, and professional development trends, relying on industry and joint ventures to optimize our teaching programs and courses. remarkable accomplishments have been achieved in our teaching program. In 2011 and 2013, it was approved as a state-level featured program and talented engineer training program. In 2018, the Animation Experiment Center passed the accredition as the Tianjin Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers. In 2019, Data Center-based High-performance Enterprise Network Architecture Virtual Simulation Experiment Project was approved as one of the Tianjin Virtual Simulation Experiment Construction Projects. The school has won seven provincial and ministerial level teaching achievement awards from 2014 to 2018.

  

  

V.Scientific research achievements:

The school of computer science and technology with international advanced achievements of high-performance fault-tolerant computing as the lead, with textile information monitoring technology, composite computer-aided design, network security technology, biological computing as the research characteristics, to computer system development, software system design, network building and management, animation creation theory and practice, the Internet of things application technology based on cooperation in running schools, such as the direction, for training in computer science, information technology and senior professionals in the field of animation creative exploration and constant progress.

In 2012, the school ranked 49th among the 120 universities that participated in the evaluation. From 2014 to 2018, the school undertook 42 national projects such as national natural science foundation ofChina, national science and technology support program and 33 provincial and ministerial projects. Teachers of the school have published more than 1,000 academic papers, including 303 high-level papers included in SCI and EI. 31 patents have been granted. It has won 2 national science and technology progress awards, 4Tianjinscience and technology progress awards and 5Chinatextile industry association science and technology awards.

Laboratories:

The school of computer science and technology has  a high-performance and embedded system laboratory, a network and information security laboratory, a media computing and virtual reality lab, a theory and new technology software lab, a computer application, a computer network teaching laboratory , a three- dimensional animation motion capture teaching laboratory, a stop motion animation studio, a professional studio and so on. Totally there are 19 scientific research and professional laboratories; 4 university-level innovation laboratories for college students: Internet of things, artificial intelligence, software and animation; Four graduate studios.

VI. International Cooperation

   1.  Undergraduate students  abroad

     Cooperation agreements have been signed with overseas universities including: University of   Dundee, ESAIP, Institut supérieur d'électronique de Paris,University for the Creative Arts,AJOU University,Victoria University,etc. The cooperation modes cover "2+2 double degrees", "3+1+1 bachelor's degree - master's degree" and other cooperation modes.

  

   2.  International student training

     In 2017, the school started a major of computer science and technology taught in English for foreign students--,  with a teaching team of 32 faculties.The school has enrolled two undergraduate students from the class of 2017 and the class of 2018 who are taught exclusively in English, as well as master's students from the class of 2018 who are taught exclusively in English. There have been four rounds of exchange student teaching with a total of 59 person-times. International students come from more than 15 countries, such asFrance,Kazakhstan,Russian federation,Bangladesh,Pakistan,Sri Lanka,Ethiopia,Yemen,Burundi,Nigeria,Somalia,IndonesiaSierra Leone,Turkmenistan,Zimbabwe, etc.,mostly countries alongOne Belt and One Road.
